Washington Square 420

· 101 photos

420 at Washington Square Park was like stepping into another world. I didn’t even realise it was going on when I was walking towards my hotel!

At first it was an eclectic mix of people, bands playing, stalls… But as time went on and it got darker something changed. Everyone was talking with everyone around them, it was just fascinating to hear their stories and get a little glimpse into their lives.

It took me a lot of courage to “break the barrier” and start talking to strangers, it’s always the hardest part, but every single time as soon as you start it just flows so well - people are super nice and everyone loves having some photos taken! I find that getting to the point where people are comfortable and enjoying the poses is such a fun challenge.

All of these were taken with my Sony Alpha A7IV and a very old Canon 50mm lens I inherited from my dad.
